On August 29th, 2015, The Dude Hates Cancer (the “Dude”), Philadelphia’s finest (and only) Big-Lebowski-themed charity bowling tournament, threw a huge 10th birthday party. Cancer-haters came together from all over the country to South Bowl for an afternoon of bowling and a night of celebrating at Underground Arts. We are still tallying the numbers, but were over $55,000 as of the end of the tournament. Every dollar raised goes to The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society to further their mission: to cure blood cancers and improve the quality of life of patients and their families. What makes the Dude extra special is that we reached this number through many small donations of $5, $10, and $20. Because of the support of so many friends and supporters, LLS are able to continue to fund its cancer fighting initiatives right here in Eastern Pennsylvania.

Thanks to everyone who made this year’s event happen: from the organizing committee who put in long (but fun) hours, to the LLS employees working behind the scenes, the bands who rocked the after party: Suburban Living, Sleek Machine, and Residuels. To Justin Miller of Haunt Love for designing our t-shirt and poster, Chorus Photography and Silverthorn Photography for their time and skills, to the awesome people at South Bowl and Underground Arts, and of course every single person who raised money, bowled, came to an event, and spread the word.
We want to recognize our generous sponsors: US Foods, Blank Rome, BrainDo, Heathery Project, Enterprise Law Associates, JMS Technology and The Bone Appetite. We also appreciate the amazing in-kind support from Dudnyk Advertising for giving our brand a whole new look, our media sponsors PHL17, City Paper and Metro for helping us spread the word, and our prize sponsors including Yards Brewing Company and many contributing businesses and restaurants that donated prizes. The Dude would not be possible if it were not for all of these collective efforts.
Tournament photos, courtesy Chorus Photography, are posted on Facebook and are well worth a look. After party photos from Silverthorn Photography to come soon – sneak preview here. The 2015 tournament may have rambled on, but any time of the year is a great time to hate cancer. The Dude abides through events year-round. If you have an idea for an event, reach out to us! We can help you make it happen, and it’s a great feeling to have fun and do good at the same time. Be sure to follow us on Facebook,Twitter and Instagram to be in the know for more events, all year long.
Since its inception in 2006, The Dude Hates Cancer has now raised over $567,000 to fight blood cancers, one donation, one fun night, and one roll at a time.
Thank you all once more time for making our 10th annual event unique, fun, and so special to many, for a cause that is so close to our hearts. Take ‘er easy, Dudes.
